Blount County Information Technology provides computing services for the offices that comprise Blount County Government. This department has an IBM iSeries that provides most of the County's information processing. In addition, the department oversees six personal computer networks at various locations throughout the County.
The Information Technology Department's responsibilities include the development of new programs and/or systems to help the offices of Blount County better meet the needs of its citizens. At present, this department maintains over 1,910 programs for 20 different computing packages with more programs being developed daily. This department is also responsible for the operation, connection, and maintenance of the more than 150 display devices and more than 60 printers connected to the County's iSeries.
A large part of the I. T. department's responsibilities is to provide support to the employees using computing devices. This department is available to help advise the offices on computing strategies and products which will most effectively meet their computing needs. Information Technology's support also includes explaining personal computing programs and operating systems, and the mid-range applications. The department also provides hardware maintenance for the more than 250 personal computers in the County's offices. This department has the opportunity to help each department better use their computing environment.
The Blount County Data Processing Department presently provides computing services to the following departments: Clerk & Master, County Clerk, Court Clerk, County Commission, Election Commission, Finance Department, Highway Department, Public Library, Purchasing Department, Records Management, Register of Deeds, Trustee and Veterans' Affairs.
Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
